主讲人介绍/ The Speaker：

Iain Begg is a Professor at the European Institute of the London School of Economics and Political Science. His main research work is on the political economy and governance of the European economy. His current and recent research projects include work on fiscal frameworks, the European Union’s finances and the future of the Euro.

讲座内容/ Abstract: 

The creation of the Euro was an unprecedented move to establish a currency without having a fully-fledged state behind it. In its first decade, the Euro was widely seen as a success, but flaws in its design were then exposed by a succession of crises. In response, many reforms were undertaken. The lecture will draw on Iain Begg’s book, Completing a Genuine Economic and Monetary Union, published in 2023, to assess the Euro today, pointing to unfinished business and remaining challenges.
